HISTORIC
RESTORATIONS
"The Old House Experts" at Country
Craftsmen have won the Historic Restorations category in the annual Award for
Professional Excellence program for 10 consecutive years. Below are
examples of the extraordinary craftsmanship and authenticity that has earned
them the reputation of being "The Old House Experts!"
Lower Macungie area ~
This authentic summer kitchen serves
as a historically accurate representation to the restored farmhouse and grounds
located near Bear Creek. The summer kitchen provides extra entertainment
space during the warmer months and the fireplace extends the usable season.
This project was featured as a cover story in New Homes & Remodeling
magazine.

At the base of Hawk Mountain ~
This log home is in a very attractive setting
in Wannamaker, PA, and before the Old House Experts were called on the job, it
was replete with water leaks and rotted logs so typical of the old log
structures. Fully restored, this log home with copper flashing should be
able to weather another couple of hundred years!

The Reed House ~
Believed to have originally served as a tavern on a road
between Tamaqua and Kutztown, the progress of this historically significant
house was covered both in print and television. The first three
photographs show the structure before work was begun including the asbestos
shingles covering the beauty of the log home.

AFTER:

The Schneck House,
Schnecksville, PA ~ The
Upper Lehigh Historical Society chose Country Craftsmen Construction to preserve
the original log cabin. The exterior was preserved by staining and sealing
logs, replacing chinking and installing a new pent roof. Copper flashing
was installed for authenticity on all the windows and doors.

The Mickley House, Whitehall, PA
~ Believed to be the oldest structure in the area,
the history of this house was reinforced with the many artifacts found on the
site. The Old House Experts approached this house with traditional
materials and methods of the era to ensure the feel of authenticity.

Governor Wolf Historical Society
~ The Society chose Country Craftsmen to restore
the Governor's 18th century Georgian house (pictured left) to strict guidelines.
The estate fireplace (center) before and after, part of an extensive, continuing
restoration project. The right photograph was a log cabin built in 1785
that is currently under the care of the Governor Wolf Historical Society ~ now
partially restored by Country Craftsmen Construction.

1700s Hessian Soldier Built Log
Home ~ After a poorly executed move, this log
cabin, an addition to a home, required total restoration and preservation.

Homeowner's Tip: Your
historic log home needs the same care as any wood exposed to the weather.
